Mesquite

Mesquite comes from the legumes of the mesquite tree (Prosopis pallida), which grows naturally in the desert regions of South America and Mexico, particularly in the Andes.

The fruit of this tree has a natural, nutty sweetness with a mild caramel and butterscotch flavor. The powder made from the pods is a pure vegetable sweetener that gives a creamy and full flavor to smoothies, juices and desserts, for example.

Mesquite is also highly nutritious. It is high in vitamin C, plant protein and fiber, which help keep blood sugar levels stable. In addition, it is rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc, and contains the essential amino acid lysine – a building block that the body cannot make itself and therefore must obtain from food.

For centuries, mesquite has been an important food source for the nomadic peoples of South America. They also call the tree the “Tree of Life” because it has numerous uses: from food and flour to tea, syrup, honey and even natural medicines.
