Black currant

The black currant or cassis berry is a small berry with a dark purple to almost black color. The berry grows on a shrub over 5 feet tall. The black currant bush thrives best in wet nutrient-rich soils. It is therefore common in deciduous forests in northern Asia and northern and central Europe. Black currants have a typical sweet and sour somewhat spicy taste. They are very suitable to use in juices or to incorporate into savory dishes. We tell you more about the black currant.
