Reishi mushroom

Health Benefits of the Reishi Mushroom

The Reishi mushroom(Ganoderma lucidum), also known as Ling Zhi in Asia, has been revered in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years and is known as the “mushroom of immortality.” It is a tough, woody mushroom with a bitter taste and is therefore not usually eaten, but processed into tea, powder or extracts.

What substances are in this?

Reishi is rich in unique bioactive compounds, notably:

  • Polysaccharides (including beta-glucans): These are complex sugars that play an important role in supporting the immune system and resistance.
  • Triterpenes: These compounds are responsible for the bitter taste and are associated with cardiovascular support and have adaptogenic properties.
  • Adaptogens: Reishi is considered an adaptogen, which means it can help balance the body and better manage stress.
  • Minerals and Vitamins: Also contains various vitamins and minerals.
