Green tea

All tea (black, white and green) is made from the same plant. Namely, the Camellia Sinensis (the tea plant). Tea is made because the leaves of this plant are picked and then dried. As a result, fermentation occurs. The degree of fermentation determines the type of tea (for example, black or green tea). Green tea leaves, however, are not fermented at all. This preserves the original light green color of the leaves. As a result, the tea is also light green in color after being steeped in hot water. We tell you more about the origin of green tea.

The origins of green tea

Green tea originated in China more than 4,000 years ago. According to survival, green tea was discovered by Emperor Shen Nung after he accidentally drank boiled water into which some tea leaves had fallen. He thought it tasted delicious. Since then, green tea has been an integral part of Chinese culture. Europe was first introduced to tea in the 17th century, as it was taken along on the ships of the Dutch East India Company (VOC).

Why do we use green tea?

The popularity of green tea has skyrocketed in recent years. Not surprisingly, as it is a healthy addition to your daily diet. Moreover, a hot cup of tea is a great drink to enjoy at any time of the day. The taste of green tea is pure and light.
