Jalapeño

Although originally from Mexico, the jalapeño is now one of the most widely used peppers in the world. The name “jalapeño” is derived from the Mexican town of Xalapa (also known as Jalapa), where this pepper was traditionally grown.
The jalapeño is medium-sized, glossy green or red in color and has a fresh, spicy flavor with a slight smoky undertone.

The spiciness of the jalapeño comes from the natural substance capsaicin. This substance provides the distinctive “kick” you feel when you take a bite. Jalapeños are widely used in Mexican dishes such as salsas, tacos and chilis, but they also add a surprisingly spicy twist in juices and shots.

Jalapeño is good for:

The jalapeño is full of healthy compounds that not only provide flavor, but also contribute to a healthy body. Below are four key benefits:

  1. Rich in vitamin C
Jalapeños are an excellent source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps protect cells and contributes to a strong immune system.
  2. Capsaicin boosts metabolism
The natural substance capsaicin can stimulate fat burning and helps the body use energy more efficiently.
  3. Supports circulation
Capsaicin helps keep blood vessels supple and may contribute to healthy circulation.
  4. Low calories, lots of flavor
Jalapeños contain hardly any calories, but they do add a lot of flavor. So you can spice up healthy dishes without adding extra fat or sugar.
