Iceberg lettuce
Although iceberg lettuce originated in America, it is currently one of the most widely eaten lettuces in the Netherlands. The name “iceberg lettuce” comes from the time when this type of lettuce was preserved with ice during the train journey from the American west coast to the east coast.
By itself, iceberg lettuce keeps well because it has a dense head. The bite is crunchy and the flavor is slightly spicier than regular head lettuce.
