Lemon balm
The name lemon balm comes from the Ancient Greek word “melissa” meaning “honey bee. This name came about because lemon balm attracts many bees. The plant is known as an important producer of nectar: the raw material of honey. More than 2,000 years ago, the plant was known to different peoples. Initially, only monasteries were engaged in its cultivation.
What is lemon balm?
Lemon balm is a perennial belonging to the so-called lipflower family. The plant blooms from June to September with small white, yellow or pink flowers. Lemon balm smells, not entirely unexpectedly, like lemon.
