What is a detox?

Have you ever heard of a detox? It’s a trend you probably haven’t missed. Detox refers to the concept where the body gets rid of toxins. However, our body already has natural mechanisms, such as the liver and kidneys, that take care of waste removal. Drinking fruit and vegetable juices can contribute to your overall health by increasing your intake of vitamins and minerals. It is important to follow a balanced diet and not have unrealistic expectations from juice cures or detox diets.

A detox is often presented as a way to improve health by ridding the body of toxins. However, our bodies have natural systems, such as the liver and kidneys, which work continuously to remove waste products. There is little scientific evidence that detox diets or juice cures are necessary or offer significant health benefits. Following a healthy, balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables can support the body’s natural detoxification processes and contribute to your overall well-being. It is always wise to seek medical advice before embarking on a detox program, especially if you have underlying health problems.

A detox can be safe in some cases, especially when it involves short periods of increased intake of fruit and vegetable juices by healthy adults. However, it is important to be cautious of extreme detox methods or prolonged juice cures, as they can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients, fatigue and other health problems.

People with underlying health problems, pregnant women, or anyone concerned about their health should always seek medical advice before embarking on a detox program. A balanced and varied diet remains the best approach to promoting overall health.

What are the possible side effects of the detox cleanse?

How your body will react to the detox treatment cannot be predicted. After all, every body is unique and reacts differently. Your body’s reaction depends on many factors, such as your lifestyle, fitness, diet, medication, drug use and metabolic system. You may initially feel uncomfortable during the detoxification treatment because you are acutely quitting addictive substances such as sugar, alcohol, smoking and coffee. This may also be because you are fasting and living primarily on vegetable juices. After a day or two, you will basically no longer suffer from this. The possible side effects of the detox cleanse are listed below in order from most to least common: Headaches, sweating, restless sleeping (weird dreams and nightmares), extreme cravings for (unhealthy) food/hunger, muscle pain, fatigue, low energy level, delayed bowel movements, lower back pain, irritation, bloating, nausea/vomiting. If you are in very good health and if you properly follow the pretox / preparation we send you, the above symptoms will not be present, if at all. Read more about our detox cleanse here.

How often can you do a detox cleanse?

You can basically do a detox cleanse as often as you want. After all, you can never consume enough healthy foods. The more healthy food you consume, the better it is for your body and mind. It is especially important to listen to the signals your body is giving you. These are different for each person. Some clients do monthly cleanses with us, while others repeat every three months. We do recommend that you repeat a detox cleanse at least quarterly, whether you order the juice from us or prepare it yourself at home. Just as you should regularly clean your car’s filters to keep its performance at its best, you can also give your body’s “filters” a cleaning. So when you maintain and repeat this, your body will continue to perform at its best.

Can you drink water during the detox cleanse ?

You can definitely drink water during the cleanse. How much water you can drink is different for each person. You get an average of 2 liters of fluids during the cleanse through our vegetable juices. So in addition, if you start drinking a lot of herbal tea and water, you can also dehydrate yourself again. When you have to urinate excessively, you can also lose many important minerals in the process. The most important advice we can give you is to listen to your thirst signal. Drink only when you are thirsty and preferably filtered or mineral water. So don’t drink water if you’re not thirsty or because you think you should. The color of your urine is also an important indicator. If your pee is completely transparent and colorless, you are drinking too much water. Light yellow urine is generally heart healthy!
