White pepper

Pepper has been around for thousands of years and is native to Persian regions and surrounding areas. The word “pepper” comes from the word “pipali” from ancient Indian writings in Sanskrit. Through Persia, the use of pepper came to the Egyptians and Ancient Greeks and was spread further around the world. It also played an important role later on: the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) was born, in part, from the desire of the Dutch to fetch their own pepper from distant lands. Enough history about the pepper. What is the pepper actually good for?

The difference in peppers

Unlike black pepper which is extracted from unripe berries, white pepper is created from ripe berries of the tropical pepper plant. These berries are soaked in water, causing them to ferment. As a result, the berries burst open and the peppercorn emerges. After this, the grains dry up white and become white peppers. The white pepper does not differ in size from other peppers. The difference is in the duration of the production process and a mild taste compared to black pepper. Because of this, the white pepper is also more expensive than other peppercorns, for example.

A refined taste

The white pepper provides an earthy flavor and is more subtle than the black grains. Black pepper is often seen as a very dominant presence in dishes. Asian chefs in particular therefore choose the white pepper.

Why is white pepper good for your health?

Pepper is packed with piperine. This is a substance that is not only responsible for the sharp taste of peppercorns. It can also promote the absorption of various nutrients. In addition, pepper is ideal for adding flavor to vegetables, for example. This makes eating enough vegetables a lot easier.

Why do we use white pepper?

White pepper can help you absorb more important nutrients from your meals. So you get more healthy substances from every bite of food! In addition, it is a delicious flavor enhancer. White pepper is more refined and subtle in flavor than black peppercorns. Thus, the peppers do not have a dominant role in our dishes, but you only taste it for better taste and as an addition. In this way, we prepare healthy and delicious dishes for you!
