Red pepper
The red pepper (chili pepper) is the fruit of the Capsicum plant and is known for its sharpness or “spice. This sharpness comes from the substance capsaicin, which is mainly found in the seeds. Red peppers not only add heat to dishes, but are also rich in concentrated nutrients.
What does this mean for my health?
The unique combination of capsaicin and vitamins in red pepper provides the following benefits:
- Immune System Support: The high concentration of vitamin C and antioxidants helps strengthen the immune system and maintain healthy skin.
- Stimulation of Metabolism: Capsaicin is known to temporarily speed up metabolism (metabolic rate) and slightly stimulate fat burning.
- Blood circulation: Capsaicin can help improve blood circulation and promote healthy blood vessels.
- Pain relief: Capsaicin is used locally in creams because of its analgesic properties (it activates nerve cells that perceive heat, which can distract from other pain).
Why do we use Red Pepper?
We use red pepper to add spice and complexity to dishes in a natural and healthy way. It not only adds a pleasant heat, but also enriches the meal with a hefty dose of vitamin C and antioxidants. It’s a simple way to combine flavor and health benefits while relying less on salt.
