Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a widely used spice worldwide. It has a wonderful spicy and aromatic sweet taste and is a delight to your taste buds. The word cinnamon comes from the Latin word “canella,” which means stick. Cinnamon is the dried and rolled inner bark of the cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum verum). The rest of the bark is ground into the well-known cinnamon powder. The oily part of cinnamon is full of the component cinnamaldehyde. This gives cinnamon its delicate fragrance and flavor.

What substances are in cinnamon?

Cinnamon is full of the substance cinnamaldehyde. This is the substance that gives cinnamon its wonderful smell and taste. It is an essential oil.

Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon

Two different types of cinnamon can be distinguished: Ceylon and Cassia. Ceylon cinnamon has an aromatic sweet deep flavor. Cassia cinnamon is slightly more bitter and less full-bodied. In addition, Cassia cinnamon contains the substance coumarin, which can be toxic in large quantities. Therefore, for your health, Ceylon cinnamon is the best choice.
