Broccoli sprouts, also called broccoli sprouts, are the sprouts of the broccoli plant. Although it is basically the same plant, the sprouts of a broccoli taste different from the plant itself: they are somewhat milder in taste. Ideal when you don’t like broccoli and still want to get the healthy substances.
The nutritional value
Broccoli sprouts are rich in vitamins B6, C and folic acid and are also high in fiber. In addition, broccoli sprouts are a good source of vitamins B1 and B5. Broccoli (germ) also contains the plant substance sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is also found in broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, among others. Broccoli sprouts contain thirty (!) times more sulforaphane than older broccoli plants like the ones we buy in the supermarket.
What are these substances actually good for?
Vitamin B6 is involved, among other things, in regulating the activity of hormones in your body. It also promotes your energy metabolism and contributes to your ability to concentrate and memory function.
Folic acid plays a role in the creation of red blood cells and contributes to the process of cell renewal. It also has a positive impact on your immune system and helps reduce fatigue.
The vitamin C in a broccoli sprout has a function as an antioxidant in your body and is important for the formation of collagen, which is important for the connective tissue in your skin. In addition, vitamin C helps ensure a good resistance and promotes the absorption of iron from your diet.
Sapje and broccoli sprouts
Broccoli sprouts contain many more healthy nutrients than broccoli plants. Precisely for this reason, we prefer to use the broccoli sprout in our juices and dishes rather than the full-grown broccoli. This way we preserve the delicious taste of the plant and provide more good substances that advance your health.
