Dandelion leaf

Many people are probably familiar with the flower: the dandelion. Its yellow leaves are often seen in Dutch summers. Many children enjoy blowing it away when it has turned into a ball of fluff. It is native to Africa, Asia and Europe and has spread to many other places through the actions of humans.

What substances are in it?

Dandelions contain numerous vitamins and minerals. Because there are so many, we have listed the flower’s many nutrients for you.

What effects do dandelion leaves have?

The dandelion can provide your body with a lot of nutrients (see the list above). Below we tell you more about the functions of these nutrients in your body.
  • Vitamin B1, or thiamine, is good for your heart. In addition, this vitamin plays an important role in the normal functioning of your nervous system and contributes to a clear mind.
  • Vitamin B6 is involved, among other things, in regulating the activity of hormones in your body. In addition, it supports your energy metabolism by playing a role in building and breaking down carbohydrates (sugars) and proteins.
  • Vitamin C supports your immune system and has a function in your body as an antioxidant. In addition, this vitamin is good for your skin and contributes to extra energy when you are tired.
  • Among other things, calcium is good for your digestion. In addition, this mineral helps keep your bones strong.
  • Iron contributes to the normal transport of oxygen through your body. Iron also has a positive effect on your immune system and is involved in the production of cells and tissues.
  • Zinc also helps your immune system and also plays a role in the normal metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Zinc also contributes to normal hormone balance.
