Shallots are very similar to onions, however, it is a related relative that is much softer in taste. Raw, this small bulbous vegetable tastes much less pungent than an onion. Like garlic, they grow in wedges and are oval and some varieties are even downright oblong. They are believed to come from central or southern Asia. But why is the shallot so healthy?

  • Shallots are packed with healthy substances. In fact, they contain more minerals and vitamins than regular onions.
  • Shallots contain vitamin B6 and folic acid or vitamin B11.
  • The shallot also contains the mineral potassium and a lot of fiber.
  • In addition, shallots are low in calories.

What does this mean for my health?

For centuries the shallot has been eaten. And this is for good reason. The ample amounts of vitamins and minerals in the shallot have many different positive effects on your health.
