Wild black currant

The wild black currant or cassis berry grows on shrubs over 1.5 meters tall on wet nutrient-rich soils in deciduous forests in northern Asia and northern and central Europe. The berries have a dark purple to almost black color and a typical sweet and sour somewhat spicy flavor. The berries are widely used in juices or incorporated into savory dishes. What makes the berry so healthy?

Blackcurrants are particularly rich in vitamin C. Per 100 grams, they contain as much as 200% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for vitamin C. In addition, dark blue berries are a good source of fiber.
