Sapje book: 100 healthy juices for all seasons

Sapje compiles 100 delicious juice recipes packed with vegetables, a little fruit, wild plants, seaweeds, mushrooms and various herbs and spices. From simple shots to effective detox drinks. For both the novice and advanced juice drinker. The recipes follow the seasons, each has a unique flavor, and vary in speed and difficulty; from two to as many as ten ingredients. The health benefits of each juice are clearly explained. First, let’s introduce ourselves: we are Joël Goudsmit and Rosalynn Campbell and we are the driving force behind Sapje, where we squeeze delicious juices full of fruits and vegetables. By the way, this once started very small. Many years ago we came to the conclusion that we were both eating far too few vegetables. We started looking for an easy and fast way to get the recommended daily portion of vegetables. The solution was simple: we bought a slow juicer and started drinking vegetable juices daily. And that turned out to be an incredibly good plan! Not only did we feel fitter and healthier, the juices had even more benefits.

I – Joel – had several allergies from a young age for which I took an average of eight to 10 medications a day for more than 15 years. After I started drinking juices, I felt a lot better. It was a great opportunity for me – Rosalynn – to earn some extra income alongside my dietitian training. I decided to use the slow juicer, which we had anyway, to start juicing for our family and people in the neighborhood. It was the beginning of something beautiful. We decided to pool our knowledge about the food industry and using nutrition for better health, and in August 2014, www.sap.je was born.

What is juice?

At Sapje we lovingly squeeze delicious, fresh seasonal juices full of vegetables, a little fruit, super healthy spices, herbs, wild plants, seaweeds and mushrooms that can help you maintain your health. We apply new and modern nutritional insights when putting together our juice blends and detox cures. We deliver these pure vitamin bombs in glass bottles (frozen) across the country. We love nature. That’s only natural, because without nature we can’t make juices. That’s why we work as “clean” as possible, seasonally and with all respect for nature. The ingredients all come from organic suppliers.

In addition, all the fruit and vegetable pulp we have left over after making the juices is used as organic feed at a farm in Amsterdam, so we have no waste. This system fits into a circular economy and we at Sapje try to live up to that philosophy as much as possible.

Why did you write a juices book?
Every day we were asked if we had (even more) healthy and delicious juice recipes to make yourself, at home in your own slow juicer. So we thought: let’s gather all our healthy and delicious juice recipes and share them with you. That way you can easily make the tastiest and most healthy juices at home.
What kind of juice recipes can I expect to find in the book?
The book contains juice recipes specified by season. This way you can use seasonal fruits and vegetables for your juices.

Are there only recipes for the slow juicer in the book?
The juices are based on a slow juicer. A slow juicer is the healthiest way to make juice. This is because the slow juicer separates the juice from the pulp. The juice contains the healthy vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. You absorb the juice more easily and get more vitamins than if the pulp is still in it.
If you don’t own a slow juicer, a blender or hand blender will also do just fine.
