5 Watermelon juice recipes

Watermelon juice is bursting with healthy nutrients and is very easy to prepare yourself at home with a slow juicer. Still want to know more about why watermelon is healthy for you? We wrote a very interesting blog about the 10 benefits of watermelon juice for your health with scientific evidence. You can read it here. Below we have 5 unique watermelon juice recipes that are delicious and healthy.

Making watermelon juice with the juicer

Making your own watermelon juice is not difficult, but a few tips can come in handy.

  • To start, cut a slice off the top and bottom of the watermelon so that you have a straight surface to put it on.
  • If you want to give your juice that bright red color, you can choose to peel the watermelon. Then take a sharp knife and cut away the skin along its entire length in such a way that you always just keep seeing the red flesh (i.e. under the white layer).
  • However, you can juice the rind just fine and it also contains many healthy nutrients. However, the watermelon juice turns a lot darker pink to light brown.
  • If you only use the flesh, you can also make a watermelon juice very easily in the blender (see below); you don’t actually need a juicer for it.
  • If you have a good slow juicer you can also just juice those seeds, as they contain healthy nutrients as well.
  • You can add all kinds of delicious ingredients to your watermelon juice for more flavor such as, mint, basil, lemon juice, lime, carrot, apple, cucumber and fennel

Making watermelon juice with a blender:

Making watermelon juice without a juicer is also possible. Making watermelon juice with a blender is a pretty good alternative. You do it like this:

  • Wash the skin on the outside.
  • Take 1/3 of a smaller watermelon and cut it into small wedges.
  • Add approximately 60 ml. of water.
  • Blend everything until you have a nice even consistency.
  • You can still choose to strain out the seeds for more drinking convenience, but for optimal nutritional value, leave those in as well and blend with them.
  • Place a cheesecloth over a (measuring) jug or bowl and pour your watermelon juice from the blender over it bit by bit, separating the fibers from the juice.
  • Squeeze out any leftover juice with your hands, if necessary. For additional health benefits: Drink your watermelon juice in the morning, on an empty stomach. Wait at least 15 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.
