During the juice cure itself, you only drink our organic vegetable juices, vegetable soups, shots and herbal teas. Would you like to nibble on some more substantial food during the cure or are you very hungry? Opt for raw organic vegetables, such as cucumber, celery, carrot or capsicum. Or make a healthy salad with lots of dark green leafy vegetables, fresh herbs, nuts, seeds, avocado and a homemade, healthy dressing. Green smoothies or extra vegetable soups are also reasonable additions to your cure. Banish all other (unhealthy) snacks during the juice cure. This allows your body to focus on your new healthy habits. After juice fasting, you slowly build up your intake of solid, healthy food again. HOW DOES OUR JUICE CURE WORK?

Avoid an unhealthy lifestyle well before the start of your juice cure. This promotes the support process of your health prevents or reduces side effects, such as withdrawal symptoms. Do not use alcohol, drugs, coffee or cigarettes at all in the three days before starting the cure. If you are on medication, consult your doctor first to see if a juice cure is suitable for you. Side effects of a juice cure

Side effects of our juice cure are often withdrawal symptoms because you stop consuming addictive substances, such as coffee, cigarettes, sugar and alcohol. That is why it is important to gradually reduce the intake of these substances during the preparation. Every body is different, so it is impossible to predict how your body will react to the juice cure. This depends on many factors, such as your eating habits, overall health, use of medication and your metabolism. By properly preparing, you reduce the risk of side effects. Below you can find the possible side effects of the juice cure listed from most to least common:

Side effects for (ex-) smokers and frequent medication/drug use

The side effects of a juice cure can be much more intense in individuals who consume a lot of alcohol on a daily basis, use medication/drugs, or are (ex-)smokers. Even if someone has quit smoking and taking medication for some time, toxins from these substances are still present in the body.

Side effects that can occur more often in (ex-) smokers and medication users can include severe headache, migraine, nausea, loose stools (diarrhoea) and sometimes, in exceptional cases, vomiting. Heavy coffee drinkers (a minimum of 3 cups per day) almost always have severe headaches that can persist for a longer period of time. Sometimes migraines also occur. Good preparation is especially important for this target group. By following our preparation programme, the body and organs can prepare themselves effectively. What is a juice cure?
During our daily lives, our bodies often accumulate many toxins from polluted air and water, pesticides, heavy metals, additives, and unhealthy food. A juice cure is a period during which you consciously engage in a healthy lifestyle and consume healthy juices rich in vitamins and minerals. At Sapje, we offer a juice cure consisting of organic vegetable juices, vegetable soup, and concentrated shots. By exclusively consuming vegetable juice for a few days, your body gets more rest, and the abundance of healthy nutrients you intake supports the natural processes in your body. A juice cure boosts immunity1 and helps you adopt new healthy habits.
What is a good juice cure?
A good juice cure can be characterised by a number of features. The juices have a content of at least 80% vegetable juice compared to fruit juice: in this way, the amount of sugar remains minimal. The ingredients used are organic, local and seasonal, so optimal freshness can be guaranteed. Good vegetable juice is not pasteurised and has not been processed in any other way to extend its shelf life: the best juice is frozen immediately after pressing and delivered frozen. Moreover, the best juice contains no additives such as sugar, preservatives, additives or water. In terms of packaging, glass is better for both the body and for the environment compared to plastic. Finally, the production method is also something to consider: juice pressed with a slow juicer retains more nutrients and fibre compared to other pressing methods.
Is a juice cure healthy?
A juice cure is healthy for most people. It is an excellent way to support the body and mind and it can lead to healthier living and eating habits. A juice cure is not suitable for everyone: individuals with an eating disorder should avoid undertaking a juice cure. Also, individuals with severe mental health issues are advised to consult their doctor first, as juice fasting can be challenging. If you take daily medication, always consult with your doctor beforehand.
What can you eat during a juice cleanse?
During the Sapje juice cure you ingest over three kilos of vegetables a day. Each day you drink a variety of healthy vegetable juices, concentrated shots, herbal teas, and water. Additionally, you’ll have a serving of organic vegetable soup daily, providing warmth and substance to your body. Furthermore, it is advised to avoid solid food, as the purpose of the cure is to give your digestive system a rest. If you feel the need to eat something, preferably choose raw vegetables and salads.
How often can you do a juice cure?
In principle, you can do a cure as often as you like. We have clients who do a juice cure every month and others who juice cure once a quarter or twice a year. We recommend repeating the juice cure at least every 6 months, whether you order it from us or prepare it yourself at home. With regular maintenance, you will have a pleasant and enjoyable juice fasting experience. People with a healthy lifestyle are advised to do a cure regularly. During the evolution of the human body, it has never been the case that food was available indefinitely. Our inner systems are designed to live with scarcity from time to time. With juice fasting, you can imitate this in a natural and healthy way.
What are the side effects of a juice cure?
The juice cure is experienced differently by everyone. How your body will react depends, among other things, on your lifestyle. People who smoke, drink alcohol and a lot of caffeine, take heavy medication and eat unhealthy foods are likely to experience more side effects than people with a healthy lifestyle. With proper preparation, you can minimise the negative effects of the cure. If you do a juice cure with us, we will send you detailed instructions. It is quite possible that during the first two days of your cure you will experience fatigue, headaches or other side effects. For most people, these side effects diminish significantly after two days. Possible side effects of a juice cure ranging from the most common to the least common, include: headache, sweating, restless sleeping (strange dreams and nightmares), extreme craving for (unhealthy) food/hunger, muscle aches, fatigue, low energy level, slowed bowel movements, lower back pain, irritability, bloating, nausea/vomiting.
Can you take a juice cleanse if you have diabetes?
It is possible to take a juice cure if you have diabetes. This applies to both type 1 and type 2. At Sapje we work with a maximum amount of 15% fruit juice, consequently the juices contain very little natural sugars. Please monitor your blood sugar level carefully, it can be lower than usual due to the small amount of sugar. It is wise to consult your doctor beforehand about your insulin intake.
Can you exercise during a juice cure?
Exercise during a juice cure is certainly possible, but listen to your body carefully. During the cure, you consume far fewer calories, carbohydrates and proteins than usual, so you cannot expect to maintain your normal level of exercise during the juice cure. We recommend that you give your body sufficient rest while following a juice cure. The reduced calorie intake can temporarily unbalance your body and mind, so be flexible and adjust your daily habits a little. We recommend relaxed forms of movement such as walking, cycling or yoga.
Can you also take a juice cure during pregnancy?
We do not recommend taking a juice cure during your pregnancy. The main reasons for this are the reduced calorie intake. However, consuming a bottle of vegetable juice once or several times a day during your pregnancy is not a problem. This will give you extra vitamins in a completely natural form, but do this in addition to your regular healthy diet.
Can you drink water during the juice cleanse?
You can definitely drink water during the cure. How much water you can drink differs for each person. During the course of the treatment, you will get an average of 2 litres of fluid through our vegetable juices. If you also drink additional herbal tea and water, you will definitely not dehydrate. However, if you urinate too much, you can lose many important minerals. The most important advice we can give you is to listen to your thirst signal. Only drink when you are thirsty and preferably filtered or mineral water. Do not drink water if you are not thirsty or because you think you have to. The colour of your urine is also an important indicator. If your urine is completely transparent and colourless, you are drinking too much water. Light yellow urine is generally very good!
